Track Hosts EIU Invite This Weekend

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois will open the 2010 outdoor track & field season this weekend as the Panthers host the EIU Invitational on Friday and Saturday at O’Brien Field. The meet will feature Indiana State, Loyola-Chicago, SIU Edwardsville and UW Milwaukee. The meet will be scored as a double dual meet with each school being scored head-to-head against other schools. 

The event will open on Friday afternoon with the hammer throw just southwest of O’Brien Stadium. The remaining events will take place on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. with the discus. Running events are slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the steeplechase. 

EIU is coming off a successful indoor season in which both the Panther men and women swept the OVC track titles. 

Last year during the 2009 outdoor season EIU swept the OVC outdoor championships for both the men and women. Sprinter Zye Boey was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Year as he advanced to the NCAA National Outdoor Championships in the 100m dash. 

EIU will also host the Neil Moore Multis and Big Blue Classic next Thursday through Saturday, April 1-3, as the only other home meet of the season.
