Track Breaks 32-Year Old Record At ISU

Iowa - Eastern Illinois had three athletes set personal bests while the
men's 4x400 relay broke a 32-year old record as members of the Panther
indoor track and field teams participated in the Iowa State NCAA Last
Chance Meet on Saturday.
The men's 4x400 team finished in sixth place in a very quick field as
they posted a time of 3:10.92. The relay team consisted of Darren Patterson, Sean Wiggan, Wes Sheldon and Marcus Williams.
The group broke the former school mark of 3:12.4 which was set in 1978.
The former record holding group included John Callozzo, Steven Jones,
Robert Johnson, Ed Hatch.
Williams and Patterson would also compete in individual events setting
personal bests. Williams placed 7th in the 400m run with a time of
48.12 which is seventh best in EIU history. Patterson posted a 6th
place finish in the 200m run at 21.73 which also landed at 7th best on
the EIU career list.
Senior Erin O'Grady
posted a personal best in the women's mile run finishing in 6th place
with a time of 5:00.53. That mark ranks fifth on the Panthers all-time
charts.
Additional competitors that traveled to Iowa State for Saturday action included Dorrian White with a 9th place finish in the pole vault clearing 15'8.25". LaMarr Pottinger placed 11th in the 60m hurdles at 8.15 and Chandra Golden was 7th in the women's 60m hurdles at 8.88.
EIU will now turn its attention to the outdoor season which will open
on March 27 when EIU hosts a home quad meet at O'Brien Field.
