Track Posts Three Top Ten Finishes

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s indoor track and field team had three top ten finishes at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational this weekend in South Bend, Ind. Darren Patterson, Queenie Abeboyejo and Chandra Golden finished near the top for the Panthers in the talented field at Notre Dame.
Patterson had the highest finish for the Panthers, finishing sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.81 Saturday. He was .01 seconds off of the time by fifth place finisher Shane Wells of Michigan State.
Adeboyejo put up an impressive mark of 39” 05’ in the triple jump. She finished in eighth place and had the same final round jump as seventh place Samia Taylor of Wisconsin Milwaukee.
Golden had the Panthers final top ten finish in the 60 meter hurdles. Golden finished the event in 8.85 seconds in the finals, which was good enough for ninth place.
Senior thrower Kandace Arnold was a top 20 finisher in two events as she placed 12th in the weight throw and 18th in the shot put. Arnold threw for a mark of 56” 04’in the weight throw Friday night, .50’ shorter than Juliana Smith of Mississippi. She finished 18th in the shot put Saturday with a mark of 44” 07’.
The first day of the event the Panthers had three other top 20 performances. Reid Basting finished in 19th place in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:05.94, while Meghan Carney finished 18th in the women’s 500m with a time of 1:18.20. The men’s distance relay team consisting of Jason Springer, Marcus Williams, Sean Wiggan and Graham Morris placed third with a time of 10:04.98.
The men’s team claimed four other top twenty performances Saturday. Dorrian White finished in a three way tie for 14th place in the pole vault with a mark of 15” 07’. White tied with Alan Dauge of Ohio State and Codi Mattix of Michigan State.
The men’s team had three other top performances in field events including Bryce Hogan finishing in 17th place in the triple jump with a mark of 44” 05.05’ in the triple jump. Justin Washington and Donald Romero finished 19th and 20th respectively in the shot put.
The Panther’s will continue the season at the Iowa State Meet next weekend in Ames, Iowa.
