O'Grady, Arnold both win two events
CHARLESTON, Ill- The Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s track teams each finished in second place in the Illinois Intercollegiate Saturday at Lantz Fieldhouse. Coming off the Mega Meet last weekend, the Panthers won a number of events in a meet that included Illinois and Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
For the third straight week, senior Kandace Arnold won both the weight throw and the shot put. Arnold’s throw of 48’ 07.25” in the shot put was nearly nine feet farther than Branson, Breanna of SIU-E and her mark of 56’ 05.25” beat out Jennie Satterlee of SIUE.
On the track side, senior Erin O’Grady won the mile run with a time of 5:06.35 and the 1000m run with a time of 3:00.06. Other notable performances for the women’s side included a second place finishes by Megan Ginferich in the 800m run, Chandra Golden in the 60m hurdles and Brittany Arthur in the 5000m run.
Illinois won the women’s side with 136, EIU finished second at 132 and SIUE in last with 71.
For the men’s team, Eastern domisteeplewebd sprinting events. Senior Marcus Williams won the 400m dash with a time of 48.98, sophomore Sean Wiggan won the 600m run with a time of 1:19.67 and junior Wes Sheldon won the 800m run with a time of 1:55.64. Darren Paterson finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 22.09.
Other notable performances for the Panthers included a second place finishes by Bryce Hogan in the long jump, Donald Romero in the shot put and Ian Winston in the high jump.
Illinois won the men’s side with 169, EIU finished second at 128 and SIU-E in last with 59.
The Panthers will continue the season next weekend as they travel to South Bend, Ind. to compete at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite Friday and Saturday.
