Track Competes Friday At Grand Valley Big Meet

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's track will compete in the Grand Valley Big Meet this Friday in Allendale, Mich. The Panthers are preparing to host the 2013 OVC Championships on Feb. 22-23. Next week EIU will host the EIU Friday Night Special in Lantz Fieldhouse.
EIU will be competing in the Invite Level events at Grand Valley as the field will include competitors from 64 schools.
The Panthers had a pair of middle distance runners earn OVC Track Athlete of the Week honors last week following their performances at the Notre Dame Meyo. Britney Whiteheadwas named the OVC Female Athlete of the Week after setting the school record in the mile. Bryce Basting was named the OVC Male Athlete of the Week after his time in the 800m ranked third best in EIU history. Basting currently ranks in the top 30 in the NCAA in the 800m.
Other nationally ranked EIU competitors heading into weekend events are Jade Riebold (top ten in women's pole vault), Mick Viken (top 15 in men's pole vault) and Erika Ramos (top 50 in women's 800m).
