Indoor Track Season Begins On Friday

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track gets underway on Friday as the Panthers host the pre-holiday break Early Bird Meet at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse. EIU is coming off its fourth straight OVC Indoor Track Championship in both men's and women's track.
The meet will feature teams from Indiana State and Southeast Missouri along with a small group from Saint Xavier University. The meet will be scored as a double dual meet.
Throwing events begin at 3 p.m. with prelims for the running events set for 4:10 p.m.
The EIU men return six All-OVC athletes from last season led by first team selections Mick Viken (pole vault) and Sean Wiggan (800m). Kaleel Johnson was second team All-OVC in two events the 55m and 200m dash. Cody Boarman (400m), Bryce Hogan (long jump) andLamarr Pottinger (55m hurdles) all earned second team All-OVC accolades.
The EIU women return five All-OVC athletes from last season led by first team All-OVC selection Jade Riebold who also earned second team All-American honors in the pole vault. Jalisa Paramore (55m hurdles) and Erika Ramos (mile) were second team selections in running events. Abigail Schmitz (pole vault) and Condia Smith (weight throw).
