Klaus, Ramirez Sweep OVC Cross Country Awards

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois cross country runners Olivia Klaus and Pablo Ramirezhave swept the weekly Ohio Valley Conference Runner of the Week awards following the Panthers season opening performance at the Walt Crawford Open.  EIU returns to action this Friday at the Illinois Intercollegiate in Bloomington.

Klaus led a solid finish by the EIU women's squad in their season opening home meet the Walt Crawford Open.  Klaus finished fourth overall and third among collegiate runners covering the 5K course in a time of 18:16.61.  Klaus was one of three EIU runners to finish in the top 8.

Ramirez was the Panthers top runner as they opened the season hosting the Walt Crawford Open at EIU.  Ramirez covered the 8K course with a time of 25:49.36 as the runners on the course finished the race in a heavy wind and rain.  It was Ramirez' first meet as a Panthers runner after earning All-American honors at the junior college level last season.
