Cross Country Set For NCAA Midwest Regional

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country return to action this Saturday as they compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Northern Illinois. Races will begin at Noon at the NIU North 40 Course in DeKalb.
The EIU women enter the event having won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship on Oct. 29. It was the first championship for the program since the 2001 season. Five runners earned All-OVC honors led by Erika Ramos, Olivia Klaus and Caitlin Napoleoni all earning first team honors. Gabriela Duenas and Britney Whitehead were second team selections while senior Megan Gingerich missed the All-Conference cut off by one spot.
The women will run at the 6K distance for the second time this season. In the previous meet at that distance this year Ramos set the school record in the 6K distance at 21:47.28.
The men's team will head to the Midwest Regional coming off a second place finish at the OVC Championships. Senior Bradley LaRocque led the Panthers earning first team All-OVC honors. EIU had three other runners earn second team All-OVC honors led by Bryce Basting,Matt Feldhake and Danny Delaney. This will be the Panthers first time running at the 10K distance this season. Early in the season EIU climbed into the Midwest Regional rankings as high as No. 14.
