Cross Country Set For Bradley Classic
Thursday, October 13 2011 - Bradley ClassicPanthers to face 12 regionally ranked teams on Friday
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country will face one of its toughest fields this Friday afternoon when the Panthers compete in the Bradley Classic at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria. This will be the Panthers final tune up for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships which take place at Eastern Kentucky on Oct. 29.
The women's field includes a total of 21 Division I schools, seven of which are ranked in their respective USTFCCCA Regional polls. Four of the ranked schools are from the Midwest Region in which EIU competes. Missouri is the highest ranked from the Midwest Region at 10th followed by Illinois State at 11th, Illinois at 13th and Saint Louis at 15th. Other regionally ranked teams in the field include Lamar which is ranked 8th in the South Central Region, Butler which is 10th in the Great Lakes Region and Eastern Michigan which is ranked 15th in the Great Lakes Region.
The men's field includes 17 Division I schools with five of the squads currently ranked in the USTFCCCA Regional polls. Four of the ranked schools are in the Midwest Region led by South Dakota State which is 11th. Other Midwest regionally ranked schools include Drake which is 12th, Loyola-Chicago which is 14th and Wichita State which is 15th. Butler which is ranked 8th in the Great Lakes Region is also in the field.
The women's team is coming off a strong finish at the Notre Dame Gold Invite on Sept. 30. The Panthers finished 6th in the field with junior Olivia Klaus leading the team on a rain soaked course. The men placed 8th at the Notre Dame Gold Invite as Bradley LaRocque was EIU's top finisher in the event.
