Track Posts Top Ten Season Opening Marks

CHARLESTON, Ill. – With the first week of the indoor track season complete Eastern Illinois men's and women's track and field heads into the holiday break with eight top ten rankings posted at the EIU Early Bird meet last Friday.

Senior Donald Romero holds the highest ranking by a Panther athlete as he ranks second nationally in the weight throw with a toss of 64'1.25”.

Zye Boey is ranked fourth in two events as he won the 60m and 200m dashes.  Boey has a time of 6.71 in the 60m and 21.33 in the 200m.  Boey earned first team All-America honors last season in the 200m during the indoor season.

Mick Viken and Jade Riebold both landed in the top ten in the pole vault.  Viken ranks fifth on the men's side with a mark of 17'.  Riebold set the EIU school record with a vault of 12'11.50” which is currently sixth in the nation.

Erika Ramos is ranked sixth in the women's mile with a time of 4:53.69 while Graham Morris is ranked sixth in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:24.56.

The men's distance medley relay is currently ranked 10th with the team comprised of Bryce BastingReid BastingEphraim Dorsey and Sean Wiggan.  The relay unit posted a time of 10:42.95.

EIU returns to action on Jan. 21 when they host the John Craft Invitational.
