Panthers Post 12 First Place Finishes On Friday

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's track and field opened the indoor season on Friday by winning 12 events as the Panthers hosted the EIU Early Bird meet at Lantz Fieldhouse.  The Panthers posted six EIU top ten marks including a school record in the women's pole vault.

Zye Boey opened the 2012 indoor season sweeping the 60m and 200m races.  Boey won the 60m with a time of 6.71 and won the 200m with a time of 21.73.  Both marks were EIU Early Bird meet records.

Donald Romero won the weight throw with a distance of 64'1.25” which landed as third best on the EIU career list. 

On the women's side Erika Ramos and Maura Cummins both won their events while posting top ten EIU marks.  Ramos won the mile run with a time of 4:55.59 which ranks third at EIU.  Cummins won the high jump clearing 5'6” which is also third at EIU.

Three EIU women's athletes finished second in their respective events but did well enough to post EIU top ten marks.  Transfer Jade Riebold was second in the pole vault with a height of 12'11.50” which broke the school record formally held by Mary Wood in 2005.  Jalisa Paramore placed second in the 60m hurdles with her time of 8.77 ranking sixth at EIU.  Emily Quinones was second in the 60m dash with a time of 7.70 ranking seventh at EIU.

Mick Viken, the OVC Freshman of the Year in 2011, opened the 2012 season winning the pole vault with a  height of 17'.  Bryce Hogan won the men's long jump at 23'2” while Jaimee Roy won the women's long jump at 17'9.75”.

Cody BoarmanSean Wiggan and Graham Morris all won individual men's races.  Boarman won the 400m with a time of 49.98.  Wiggan was first in the 1000m run at 2:331.5.  Morris won the 3K with a mark of 8:27.26. 

The Panther men's 4x400 placed first with a time of 3:20.85.  The 4x400 relay team consisted of Stefan GorolJoe Augustine, Boey and Boarman.

EIU will return to action following the holiday break when they host the John Craft Invitational on Jan. 21.
