Indoor Track Season Starts On Friday
Thursday, December 9 2010 - EIU Early BirdCHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois will host its annual Early Bird Track and Field meet on Friday at the Lantz Fieldhouse as the Panthers kick off the start of the 2010-11 indoor track season. The Panthers are the defending Ohio Valley Conference Champions on both the men’s and women’s side with a large number athletes returning for both squads.
The meet will start at 3 p.m. and will be scored as a double-dual meet with full men’s and women’s teams coming from Butler, Chicago State, Indiana State and Kennesaw State. In addition women’s teams from Cincinnati and Northern Illinois are set to compete.
Following the EIU Early Bird the Panthers will return to action on Jan. 15 competing at Wisconsin before hosting the EIU MEGA Meet on Jan. 22.
For the indoor season EIU returns the male OVC Athlete of the Year in sprinter Darren Patterson while the women return OVC Athlete of the Year in middle distance runner Megan Gingerich.
