Track With Eight First Place Finishes At ISU

The EIU men placed first in the meet while the EIU women placed second.
Haleigh Knapp turned in the best performance of the day for EIU as she set the school record in the women's high jump. Knapp won the event with a height of 5'10.50" which is three quarters of an inch higher than the previous school record held by Maura Cummins (2013) and Tina Dawson (1989).
Knapp was one of three first place finishes for the EIU women in field events. Janie Howse led a sweep of the top three spots in the women's hammer. Howse won the event with a throw of 163'11.25" which ranks fourth all-time at EIU. Bryn Buckwalter was second in the hammer with a throw of 160'2" which ranks fifth all-time at EIU. Nicollette Diana was third with a hammer distance of 148'11". Buckwalter came back later in the day and won the shot put with a throw of 48'4.75" which ranks third on the EIU career charts.
The EIU men won both sand jump events with Chrisford Stevens winning the triple jump with a distance of 47'11". Kendall Williams won the long jump landing at 23'8.75". Stevens was second in the long jump clearing 22'9.25". Davion Foster was third in the triple jump at 47'11".
Riley Kittridge won the discus with a throw of 148'6.50" with Clayton Turner placing second with a throw of 140'4.50". Eric Gordon won the pole vault for one of his top two finishes for the day in field events. Gordon had a pole vault height of 15'5.50". He was second in the javelin with his throw of 195'2.50" just missing the EIU career top ten list.
Brion Portis rounded out top three finishes in field events for the EIU women with a second place effort in the triple jump. Adam Kessler rounded out the EIU men's top three finishers in field events. He was second in the shot put with a throw of 52'4.50". He was third in the hammer with a throw of 152'3.50".
Dhiaa Dean had the Panthers first place finish on the track winning the 400m with a time of 55.24. Michael Miller was third in the men's 400m with a time of 49.47.
Maria Baldwin was third in the 5K with a time of 17:15.54 which ranks fourth at EIU. Anita Saffa was second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.87.
Christian Ilunga-Matthiesen was part of two races that placed the senior in the EIU career top ten. He was second in the 100m dash with his time of 10.52 ranking tenth at EIU. He ran the anchor leg on the 4x100m relay team that had a time of 40.53; that time ranking tenth at EIU. Ilunga-Matthiesen was joined on the 4x100 relay team byJohnathan Boey, JaMarcus Townsend and Jamal Robinson. Robinson was third in the 100m with a time of 10.57 and third in the 200m with a time of 21.48.
John Piper, Amina Jackson and Darneisha Spann had top three finishes for EIU in the hurdle events. Piper was second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.27 and third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.57. Spann was second in the women's 100m hurdles at 14.41. Jackson was second in the women's 400m hurdles in 1:02.35.
Tyler Keen, Mark Pedziwiatr and William Giroux rounded out the men's top three finishers on the track. Keen was second in the 5K with a time of 17:33.13. Pedziwiatr was second in the 800m with a time of 1:52.57. Giroux was third in the steeplechase with a time of 10:01.86.
The meet was capped by the EIU women placing second in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:49.14. The men placed third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:18.13.
