EIU Second After Day One Of OVC Track

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Illinois sits in second place at the 2014 OVC Outdoor Track Championships following day one competition.
EIU trails Southeast Missouri on the men's side. SEMO has 81 points followed by EIU at 72.5 and SIU Edwardsville in third at 41.
The Panther women also trail SEMO for first place. SEMO has 57 points; EIU 51.5 and Tennessee State sits in third with 30.5.
The Panthers had three first place finishes on Friday including podium sweeps in both the men's and women's pole vault.
Annemarie Reid led the women's pole vault sweep while Mick Viken led the men's pole vault sweep.
Reid cleared 12'5.50" to win gold with Kirstie Wieber and Sadie Lovett both clearing 11'11.75" to place second and third.
Viken cleared 17'4.50" followed by Peter Geraghty at 16'10.75 and Eric Gordon at 14'11".
Emily Brelsfoard had the final EIU first place finish on the opening day winning the 10K with a time of35:59.63. Pablo Ramirez was the silver medalist in the men's 10K with a time of 29:50.61.
Jalisa Paramore was the bronze medalist in the women's long jump with a mark of 19'6.75".
On the men's side Joe Calio, Aviance King and David Johansson all picked up medals for EIU. Calio was third in the steeplechase with a time of 9:15.15. King was second in the high jump clearing 6'8.75". Johansson was third in the javelin with a mark of 192'8".
OVC Championship action resumes at SIU Edwardsville at 9 a.m. on Saturday. EIU has won five straight OVC Outdoor Track Championships on both the men's and women's side.
