School Record Falls At IU Billy Hayes

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Eastern Illinois women's 4x100 relay smashed the school record and Zye Boey continued his winning ways highlighting the Panthers performance at Friday's Billy Hayes Invite hosted by Indiana.
The women's relay team won the 4x100 event with a time of 45.55 which broke the previous mark of 46.25 set in 1981. The relay team consisted of Violet Nwordu, Chandra Golden, Tarra Grant and Shawana Smith. Their time also hit the NCAA Regional standard.
In addition to a top relay performance three members of that team also had outstanding individual performances at IU as well. Golden won the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.74. Smith won the 200m dash with a time of 24.43 while Nwordu was second in the 200m at 24.50. Nwordu's time moved her up to fifth on the EIU career charts.
In men's track action Boey continued to have an outstanding freshman campaign sweeping the 100m and 200m sprints at Indiana. Boey won the 100m with a time of 10.52 with teammate Brandon Jelks finishing sixth. Boey won the 200m at 21.16.
Ian Winston rounded out the top EIU performances on the day with a runner-up mark in the high jump. Winston cleared 6'08.75 to earn silver.
EIU will continue train in preparation for the NCAA Regional in Louisville, Ky., on May 29-30.
