CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois will venture about 45 minutes east this weekend as the Panthers will compete in the Indiana State meet at Marks Field. This will be the first home outdoor meet ISU has hosted in five years as the scoring meet will include EIU, ISU, Loyola-Chicago and SIU Edwardsville.

Eastern Illinois is coming off a strong weekend performance at the Georgia Relays in which three athletes earned OVC Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors. The Georgia Relays consisted primarily of field events and relays excluding the 100 and 200 meter sprints.

Winning individual honors last week for EIU were Brenton Pegues in the men’s 400m run, Crystal Jones in the women’s 400m run and Samantha Manto in the women’s 400m hurdles. EIU also swept a handful of relay titles which were comprised of many of EIU’s sprinters.

Pegues was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week while Caitlin Napoleoni and Kandace Arnold swept the women’s honors. Napoleoni’s mark in the steeplechase was the fourth best in EIU history while Arnold’s hammer throw ranks third on the EIU career list.

EIU will host the Big Blue Classic on April 2-4 at O’Brien Field.
