EIU completes the night with 16 top 10 finishes at the GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Eastern Illinois indoor track & field team put on a strong performance at the Grand Valley State Big Meet as the Panthers finished with 16 top 10 finishes during the competition. 10 Panthers moved into the top 10 in EIU records for their respective events.

Anita Saffa earned a pair of top 10 finishes in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She set a new PR in both of the events as she finished the 60-meter dash in second place (7.58) and currently holds the second best time in the OVC. Her time also moved her at a tie for the second best time in EIU history. For the 200-meter dash she finished the event in sixth place (24.73) and stands with the sixth best time in the OVC. Her time for the 200-meter dash is the fourth best in EIU history.

Teammates Amina Jackson and Amy Yeoman posted top 10 finishes in their respective events. Jackson ran a PR in the 600-meter run (1:34.83) to finish the event in third-place and has moved into third place in EIU history. Yeoman crossed the finish line eighth overall in the mile run as she too set a new PR (4:53.15) as she holds the top time in the OVC and third best time in the EIU record books.

Haleigh Knapp and Jackie Jones both placed themselves amongst the top 10 in the women's high jump. Knapp finished the event in fifth place (5'05.75") and Jones in ninth (5'04.25").

Janie Howse earned a pair of top 10 finishes in the shot put and weight throw. She posted the second best mark for the weight throw (58'09.25") and ninth best mark in the shot put (44'10.25"). Teammate Bryn Buckwalterfinished in fifth place in the shot put (47'04.25").

The trio of Maria BaldwinRachel Garippo, and Kristen Rohrer all ran PR's in the women's 3000-meter run with times of 9:59.34, 10:01.69, and 10:02.57 respectively. They now hold the second, third, and fourth best times in the OVC and the fourth, seventh, and eighth best times in EIU history.

Ivy Handley also moved up in the EIU record book for the 5000-meter run with her new PR (17:27.15), and now holds the fifth best time.

The quartet of Dhiaa DeanCassidy StrohlDarneisha Spann, and Jackson rounded out the list of the impressive performances from the EIU women. The group teamed up in the women's 4x400-meter relay and crossed the line with the fifth best time (3:49.59) and now hold the third fastest time in the OVC. The group also moved into fifth place in EIU history.

For the EIU men, Christian Ilunga-Matthiesen posted a pair of top 10 finishes on the night. His first came with his season best time in the 60-meter dash (6.84) as he finished the event fourth overall. He ended the 200-meter dash with the 10th best time (22.11).

Eric Gordon crossed the bar at 15'05.00" in the pole vault and earned himself a tie for fourth place as Elliott Krause finished the event in ninth (14'05.25").

Paxson Menard cruised to a sixth place finish in the 3000-meter run (8:24.06).

Adam Kessler posted the seventh best toss in the shot put (52'02.50") as teammate Riley Kittridge followed him with the ninth best toss in the shot put (50'08.25").

The Eastern Illinois indoor track & field teams will return to the Lantz Fieldhouse next Friday [Feb. 19] for the EIU Friday Night Special.
