Women's Cross Country 2nd At OVC Championship

Panther men place 5th at league championships
 
OXFORD, Ala. – Eastern Illinois women's cross country placed second at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships held Saturday morning in Oxford, Ala.   The Panther men placed fifth at the league championship meet.

EIU had three women's runners earn second team All-OVC honors as the Panthers scored 78 overall points.  Eastern Kentucky won the women's title with 19 points.   Belmont was third with 86 points followed by Southeast Missouri in fourth.   Ann Eason of EKU won the individual title with a 5K time of 17:04.73.

Emily Brelsfoard was the top EIU finisher in ninth place with a time of 17:45.16.   Victoria Quarton was 13th with a time of 17:59.36 and Maria Baldwin was 14th at 17:59.98.   Brelsfoard, Quarton and Baldwin all earned second team All-OVC honors based on their finishes.   Baldwin was named the OVC Female Freshman Runner of the Year on Friday night.

Ivy Handley was the fourth EIU runner to score placing 19th with a time of 18:15.15.  Julie James was the final scored runner placing 23rd with a time of 18:23.99.   EIU's other competitors at the championship were Rachel GarippoKristen Rohrer and Quincy Knolhoff.   Garippo was 24th with a time of 18:26.71.  Rohrer was 32nd with a time of 18:35.72.  Knolhoff was 60th with a time of 19:44.01.

On the men's side EKU won the men's title with 15 points as they had the top five scored runners.  Ambrose Maritim was the overall winner with an 8K time of 23:59.29.   Morehead State was second followed by SIU Edwardsville, Belmont and EIU.

Riley McInerney was the top EIU finisher in 15th with a time of 25:04.55 as he missed earning All-OVC honors by one place.   Paxson Menard had a top 20 finish placing 19th with a time of 25:14.02.  Joe CalioRyan Ballard and Derrick Johnson rounded out the top five EIU scored runners.   Calio was 21st with a time of 25:21.76, Ballard was 23rd with a time of 25:23.26 and Johnson was 31st with a time of 25:49.39.

Mark PedziwiatrLucas Nudelman and Brock Ramos completed the EIU runners that competed at the championship.   Pedziwiatr was 40th with a time of 26:09.77.  Nudelman was 51st with a time of 26:3.26 and Ramos was 67th with a time of 27:29.74.

EIU returns to action on Friday, Nov. 14 at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria.
